Release Date: 3/8/2017

Ten University of the Ozarks art students had the opportunity to have their works on display at the 2017 Collegiate Art Competition, held March 5, 2017, at the River Valley Arts Center in Russellville, Ark.

Stephanie Payton, an art major from Greenwood, Ark., took second place in the competition for her charcoal drawing, "Untitled."

"This piece was a learning experience for me as I studied how to describe different movements and textures with the charcoal medium," Payton said. "I am very blessed to have received this recognition for my hard work. The other participants in the competition are all very talented and their pieces were amazing so I was definitely surprised to learn that I placed second."

Other U of O students who took part in the competition included, Ana Sofia Camargo, Azalia Molina, Patrick Brown, Obed Gonzalez, Lilly Calnan-Bostic, Aubree Sisson, Amanda Fields, David Nichols and Blanca Almaraz.

"I am pleased with the amount of artwork that was displayed in this exhibit from the University of the Ozarks," said Tammy Harrington, professor of art. "The artwork covered a variety of styles, media, and content. This is a fantastic professional activity for our students to participate in. I am proud of Stephanie and her award. It shows that our art students can compete with surrounding schools."

The exhibit will be on display at the center through March 26, 2017.
