University of the Ozarks sets 2009 choir tour

Clarksville, Ark. --- The University of the Ozarks' top musical ensemble, the Chamber Singers, will perform at several churches in Arkansas and Oklahoma in April as part of the university's 2009 Spring Choir Tour.

U of O Assistant Professor of Music Dr. G. Mikael Lindström will direct the Ozarks Chamber Singers during its tour of Arkansas and Oklahoma. Lindström, who earned his doctorate in musical arts from the University of North Texas, serves as the director of choral activities at U of O. Anna Young, a junior music major at Ozarks, will serve as pianist and rehearsal accompanist during the tour, and Dawn Dvoracek, director of church relations at Ozarks, will serve as tour organizer.

The 2009 Spring Tour will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 5, with a performance during the morning service at First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville The tour will include visits to churches in Conway, Ark.; Little Rock, Ark.; Camden, Ark.; and Jenks, Okla. There will also be three concerts in Munger Chapel on the U of O campus, including a special performance that will conclude the tour at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 27. The concert will also include some private concerts at retirement villages in Arkansas and Oklahoma

Among the selections the groups are expected to perform are: Singet dem Herr nein neues Lied by Heinrich Schütz; Veni Creator Spiritus by U of O student Benjamin Eakin; You Are The New Day by John David/arr. Knight; Down to the River to Pray arr. by Marcello Noia; Travelling Song by Mikhail Glinka/arr. Ruggieri; MLK by U2/arr. Chilcott; Och jungfrun hon går i ringen arr. by Hugo Alfvén; Praise to the Lord, the Almighty by Hugo Distler; Moon River by Henry Mancini/arr. Anna Yong; In Spring by Adam Stanley; Kasar mie la gaji by Alberto Grau; Rest by Ralph Vaughan Williams; and Jeremiah’s Fire! by Rollo Dilworth.

The public tour performances include:

  • First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville, Ark., at 10 a.m., April 5.
  • U of O Munger Memorial Chapel in Clarksville, Ark., at 11 a.m., April 7
  • First Presbyterian Church in Conway, Ark., at 6:30 p.m., April 18.
  • Westover Hills Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Ark., at 10:25 a.m., April 19
  • U of O Munger Memorial Chapel in Clarksville, Ark., at 11 a.m., April 21
  • St. James Presbyterian Church in Jenks, Okla., at 6:30 p.m., April 22
  • First Presbyterian Church in Camden, Ark., 11:00 p.m., April 26
  • U of O Munger Chapel in Clarksville, Ark., at 7:30 p.m., April 27

 

The public is invited to attend any of these concerts and there is no charge for admission.
