Harrington participates in fund-raising project

Clarksville, Ark. --- Tammy Harrington, associate professor of art, recently participated in the "Shine a Light on Literacy" fund-raising project held at the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock on Feb. 19.

Tammy HarringtonDozens of Arkansas artists volunteered their time and talent to embellish individual lamps in a variety of artistic styles. These lamps were available for auction and the funds raised went to support adult literacy in central Arkansas. Literacy Action of Central Arkansas (LACA) is a volunteer-driven organization that teaches illiterate adults to read, and teaches oral and written English to non-native speakers.

Headquartered in Central Arkansas Library System’s Main Library, LACA is a member of the statewide Arkansas Literacy Councils. Harrington’s lamp design was based on the folk art of Chinese paper cutting. She used the paper cut technique on the lampshade. The subject matter of the paper cut focused on the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac. The base of the lamp was collaged with tissue paper and bamboo.
