Clarksville, Ark. -- University of the Ozarks senior Michelle Fischer will present her black and white photography exhibit "It's a Dog's World" as the featured Artist of the Month for December at the University's Stephens Gallery.
Fischer, an art major from Rogers, Ark., will showcase numerous "non-traditional" black and white portraits of dogs in the exhibit, which will run from Dec. 5-14 in the gallery, located in the Walton Fine Arts Center. There will be a reception to meet the artist from 7-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, in the gallery.
Fischer said her artwork is a reflection of her love and devotion to her canine companions.
"My photographs are not meant to be just snapshots of dogs, instead they are true portraits of individuals that have souls and are capable of the most unconditional love," she said. "My work is true to human portrait photography. Most of my compositions are typical head and shoulder shots so that the dog as an animal is not emphasized. I want the viewers to analyze the photograph as they would a human portrait by trying to figure out what each sitter is feeling and thinking; to explore what characteristics of their personality come out. I want my viewers to see the comical happiness of Bruno and the dignified and somewhat sad calmness of Angel without considering their four legs and wagging tails."
