Clarksville, Ark. --- More than 500 alumni, family members and friends of the University of the Ozarks are expected to converge on Clarksville during the weekend of April 12-14 for the university's Alumni Weekend 2007.
One of the biggest annual events on the Ozarks campus traditionally draws alumni from throughout the United States as well as other countries.
The theme for Alumni Weekend 2007 is “Ozarks….Keys to Success.” The weekend will include numerous opportunities for current students to interact with alumni, including a career networking event and an alumni panel program called Inter-ACT (Alumni Career Talks) with former U of O student-athletes on April 13.
Alumni Weekend officially begins on Thursday, April 12, with the University Theatre’s production of Proof at 7:30 p.m. in the Walton Fine Arts Center. The play will also be performed on Friday, April 13.
On Friday, April 13, the Ozarks Class of 1957 will be honored with a luncheon and induction into the university’s 50-Year Club. Earlier that day, the Alumni Lecture Series will feature former Ozarks President Dr. Fritz Ehren of Clarksville.
Other events on Friday include a reception at the home of Jack and Ann Phillips, a President’s Reception at the home of President Dr. Rick Niece and First Lady Sherée, and the always popular Alumni and Campus Community Picnic, which begins at 6 p.m. on the campus mall. Magician Alian Nu will perform in the Seay Student Center at 7 p.m. Friday.
Saturday, April 14, will begin with the annual 5K run/walk through the streets of downtown Clarksville. A Memorial Service honoring those alumni, trustees and staff members who passed away in the last year will be held later that morning, followed by the Alumni Awards Luncheon at Noon in the Seay Student Center. Jack Phillips ’50 of Clarksville will receive the Alumni Merit Award and Dr. Charles Liston ’65 of Bedford, Ky., will receive the Alumni Achievement Award. Amy Anderson ’97 will be the recipient of the Young Alumni Service Award.
In addition, the Alumni Association has named three alumnus from the Class of 1941 who will receive the 2007 Legacy Award for a lifetime of unselfishly giving of their resources to support Ozarks. They are: Maxine (Manuel) Eggensperger, Marie (Baskin) Lewis, and Phillip Pittman
Other events on Saturday will include a Hole-In-The-Wall Gang reunion and golf outing, a Family Tailgate and Picnic Bash during U of O softball and baseball games, a President’s Dessert Reception, a Jones Learning Center Reception, and the annual All-Alumni Reunion at the Clarksville Country Club.
