October 10 and 11, 2008
University Theatre opened the 2008-2009 Season with a fast-moving version of the classic story of Bram Stoker's Count Dracula, as feely adapted by Crane Johnson.
Lucy, fiancée of Dr. Seward, has been stricken by a strange malady. As the scholarly Dr. Seward grows increasingly concerned about Lucy's health, he begins to fear that her illness is rooted in some unknown, and perhaps unnatural, phenomena. In a last-ditch effort to determine the cause for Lucy's illness, Dr. Seward summons the renowned metaphysician Dr. Van Helsing to investigate. Under Dr. Van Helsing's keen eye, some very strange facts about Lucy's case begin to emerge, and when Count Dracula, the neighbor from Carfax Hall pays a visit, she begins to suspect the horrible truth. In a desperate race to save Lucy and the others from the evil Count Dracula, Dr. Van Helsing leads the search to find the vampire's secret hiding place and to destroy him, once and for all.
Directed by Walton Professor of Theatre, Dr. Pat Farmer, Dracula features the work of Professor Bruce Brown as scenic and projection designer, and students Phillip Perez (stage manager), Jenava Moreau (lighting designer), Erin Fuller (costume designer), Danielle Stover (graphic designer), Josh Tarvin (sound designer), and Leah Short (hair and make-up designer).
