CLARKSVILLE, Ark. --- University of the Ozarks junior Scott Sykes of Nashville, Ark., will take part in a summer internship at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles for the television show "Entertainment Tonight." Sykes, a communications major, will work for the daily entertainment news program from mid-May to mid-August. The internship will allow him to shadow ET's field reporters as well as work in areas of editing, research and set preparation.
"It's exciting because it will be my first taste of how entertainment news is produced," said Sykes, who last year interned at Little Rock's KATV-Channel 7. "I've had a chance to learn broadcast news skills for hard news, but I think this internship will teach me more about how to develop my style of reporting for features and more creative pieces."
Sykes, who also has done some modeling for several area companies including Dillard's, said his agent is trying to find him some modeling jobs in Los Angeles during his stay there.
"It would be great if I could grab some modeling work on my down time and make some inroads there," he said. "Before coming to U of O, I knew I wanted to go to Hollywood, but I didn't know how I was going to get there. Now things are beginning to fall into place. If it was not for the staff and faculty here concentrating on my strengths and helping me work on my weaknesses, I wouldn't have the opportunities I have now."
Sykes has been involved with Ozarks' student-run television station, Channel 6, as a reporter and anchor for the past two years. He has also recently produced a U of O recruiting video.
