Ozarks' Chorus schedules three-state tour

Release Date: 3/30/2000

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. --- The University of the Ozarks Chorus will perform at four churches in three states from April 6-9 during its annual spring concert tour.

The 45-student University Chorus, under the leadership of Choral Director Dr. David De Seguirant, will be joined by the University Ringers, the college's handbell choir, during the tour. The tour will begin at 7:30 p.m., April 6, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, before moving to Trinity Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas, at 7:30 p.m., April 7. The chorus will perform at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City at 11 a.m. on April 9 and complete the tour at Mountainburg Presbyterian Church in Moutainburg, Ark., at 5:30 p.m., April 9.

The chorus will perform such sacred spirituals as, "Just a Closer Walk," "The Storm is Passing Over," and "Beautiful Savior."

De Seguirant, director of Ozarks' choral activities since 1996, said the tour is the highlight of the year for the University Chorus.

"It's the one opportunity where the music and the singers really join together," he said. "It's a great bonding experience for the group, plus it builds enthusiasm among the members."

De Seguirant also said the tour, which was started up again last year after it was discontinued for several years, helps in both recruiting and community relationships.

"It creates more visibility for the campus and serves as a great connection between churches in our region and the university," he said. "It also lets prospective students meet our student body and see the diversity in regard to culture and majors that we have. There are only four music majors in the chorus and that demonstrates the liberal arts view of our education here at Ozarks."

The University Chorus will perform its annual spring concert on the U of O campus at 7:30 p.m., April 27, in Munger Chapel.
