Ozarks to host university theater festival Oct. 24-26

For the first time since 1996, University of the Ozarks will host the Arkansas Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF).

For the first time since 1996, University of the Ozarks will host the Arkansas Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF).

The festival will include fully-staged productions from four colleges in Arkansas and Oklahoma and will run from Oct. 24-26 in the U of O Walton Fine Arts Center. Tickets to the plays are $8 each and can be purchased on-line at www.ozarks.edu/WAIS or at the box office on the evening of the performances. A festival pass for all four performances is $10.

The first play of the festival is the University of the Ozarks Theatre's "In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play," set for 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24. The play is directed by U of O's Walton Professor of Theatre Bruce B. Brown.

On Friday, Oct. 25, University of Arkansas-Fort Smith will present "Lend Me a Tenor," at 1 p.m. Later that evening, Eastern Oklahoma State College will present "Hedda Gabler," at 8 p.m.

The festival's final performance will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, with the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff's production of "The Trial of One Short-Sighted Black Woman vs. Mamie Louise and Safreeta Mae."

Each production will be viewed by out-of-state respondents who will recommend at least one production be considered for entry in the KCACTF Region VI Festival. Region VI includes colleges and universities from Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
