Winners announced from seventh annual Science Day

On Nov. 14, 52 student volunteers and numerous faculty members at University of the Ozarks hosted more than 120 high school students from throughout the region who competed for coveted awards during the university's seventh annual Science Day.

Students from Lamar High School show off their certificates following the awards ceremony at the U of O’s seventh annual Science Day. Lamar High School won the Top School Award.

In addition to competing to win prizes in chemistry, biology, and physics, the students were given tours of campus and attended demonstrations by science faculty members. Also up for grabs was the T.L. Smith Biology Scholarship, which is awarded to the top senior who plans to major in biology at Ozarks.

The winners in each category are listed below.

Biology:

First - Jeffrey Brannon, Lamar High School

Second - Colton Horn, Scranton High School

Third - Brittany Watts, Lamar High School

Chemistry:

First - Jeffrey Brannon, Lamar High School

Second - Devan Baver, Lamar High School

Third - Eva Hudson, Dover High School

Physics:

First - Rachel Myers, Clarksville High School

Second - Jeffrey Brannon, Lamar High School

Third - Hayden Carlton, Lamar High School

Overall Individual Winners:

Third - Amy Toombs, Lamar High School
