The
President's Post
We
recently conducted our sixth annual Student Open Forum where
we presented next years budget and explained the increases in
tuition, room, board, and fees. After answering questions about the
budget, we asked for general comments/concerns about the campus from
the student perspective. We listened carefully to the students
questions and suggestions, and we will become an even better campus
because of what we heard and learned.
Subjects discussed ranged from academic majors to
campus facilities to food service to landscaping and grounds. I am always
impressed by our students and their depth of insight and understanding.
That is one reason I feel comfortable in sharing sensitive information
with them. I do not know of another campus that has an open forum of
this nature in which copies of the budget are distributed directly to
students. I also do not know of many other campuses that allow students
to be active members of the budget-building team.
I am proud that we remain open and honest with our
students at Ozarks, and I am pleased that they appreciate our faith
in them. Openness and direct participation in major decision-making
are primary reasons for our continued success. My thanks to Taylor Dodds,
SGA president, and Park Carter, SGA vice president, for organizing the
forum. The two of them are doing an exceptional job of representing
the student body and working with the administration. As students, your
voice is being heard and respected.
Dr. Rick Niece
President.
