The President's Post
    This week we will be celebrating a holiday that honors the founding families of the nation. Thanksgiving commemorates the Pilgrim’s celebration of the feast of the good harvest in 1621, and it is the time we officially give thanks for our many privileges and unique blessings as Americans. Since the tragic events of September 11, I hope that we are giving thanks daily for freedoms, rights, and liberties we enjoy but have often taken for granted.

   As we travel our separate ways to celebrate Thanksgiving, I make a simple request of you. When you sit at the dining room table to begin your family’s “feast of the good harvest,” I ask that you offer a prayer. In that prayer thank God for the blessing of family and friends, home and comfort, safety and security, education and opportunity, life and liberty. As you pray keep in mind that, in some homes throughout this great nation, a dining room chair is empty and a family continues to grieve its loss. Remember to be thankful for your family, your friends, and the love that blesses you generously. May you indeed have a happy Thanksgiving.

And return safely to your campus family.
