The President's
Post
At
the recent Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner,
the University of the Ozarks received a marvelous honor. Ozarks was
named the Corporate Business of the Year for 2001. Lately,
as a campus, we have been recognized in a variety of ways, but I am
most proud of this one. The award was the result of a team effort by
all of us. Our status in the community as an educational leader
and a model of service to others is important to me, and I appreciate
that you have made the same commitment. Each of us, as an employee or
a student, is an ambassador for this campus in everything we do. We
are Ozarks. I appreciate your realization of that significant responsibility.
At the Chamber Awards Dinner Julia Frost, Director
of the Learning Center, received the Educator of the Year
award. That is a well-deserved honor for Julia, the Learning Center,
and Ozarks. Please extend your congratulations to Julia for this achievement.
Ozarks was recognized in a third manner as well. Roy
and Nancy Johnson and the late Dr. Alvin Broyles were named as recipients
of the Community Pride awards. Roy Johnson is on the Board
of Trustees and recently served as chair of the Board. He and Nancy
are generous supporters of Ozarks and are responsible for the beautiful
entryway to the campus on College Avenue. Dr. Broyles was an alumnus
of Ozarks and a former lifetime Board of Trustee member. The Smith-Broyles
Science Center is named in honor of him, and several campus beautification
projects are a result of his bequeathal.
All of us should be proud to be members of the Ozarks
community. And Ozarks is privileged to be an integral part of Clarksville
and Johnson County.
Dr. Rick Niece
