production Lovers: Winners at 7:30 p.m., April 19-2, in
the Walton Fine Arts Center. Written by Irish playwright Brian Friel
and under the direction of Professor Pat Farmer, Lovers: Winners
is a gentle, humorous and touching play set in 1966 on top of Ardnageeha,
the hill of the winds, which overlooks the town of Ballymore in Northern
Ireland. Joe and Mag are two high school students who have come to the
hill to study for their final exams for their final year in school.
They will be married in three weeks. The characters of The Man and The
Woman are narrators and guides for the play and heighten the irony of
the story of the two teenagers. The production will be staged in the
round, with 125 audience members seated on all sides of the set.
The cast includes Sam Fincher as The Man, Misti Ponder
as The Woman, April James as Maggie, and Johnny Waldrop as Joe. Bruce
Brown will serve as the technical director and light designer, Megann
McManus as the scenic designer, Johnny Waldrop as the sound designer,
Nathan Sain as the graphic designer, Dustin Campbell as the stage manager
