The President's
Post
During the “Student Open
Forum” last month, I had the opportunity to explain our tuition, room,
and board increases for next year and to answer a number of student
questions. I was able to place our costs at Ozarks in a proper context
for students. I wanted to repeat my message for students who were unable
to attend the forum and for faculty and staff members.
The total cost for tuition, room, and board next
year will be $13,185, an increase of 5.9 percent. However, because of
the “Retention Grant,” the increase for returning students will be only
3.8 percent and that equates to $475 actual out-of-pocket dollars. We
currently rank eighth among the 10 private campuses in Arkansas in regards
to our cost. That is one list where it is good to be near the bottom!
Remember also that U.S. News and World Report ranked Ozarks as the “Third
Best Value” in the southern region. That ranking is based on the quality
of a university’s education for a tremendous bargain. Our pledge to
students is to continue to keep our costs as reasonable as possible.
Everywhere I speak, I promote the University of the
Ozarks as being a top-tier institution with an outstanding faculty and
staff and highly motivated, inquisitive students. We provide an exceptional
education in a small, safe, Christian, liberal arts environment. And
we nurture an atmosphere of genuine caring and concern for others.
Students invest in us, and they deserve our best
effort. I am proud of what we do, and the education we provide.
Dr. Rick Niece
