| I do not believe that I have ever tried to describe a miracle. And, to be honest, I don't think that I can. But this campus recently experienced one. The $39,500,000 gift from the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation is our miracle. This is the largest gift in the history of the University. In fact, it is the largest gift to an independent college or university in Arkansas history. That is remarkable and a credit to us all. The gift is a challenge gift as we launch the most ambitious capital and endowment campaign in our long and distinguished history: A 55-million dollar, five-year campaign. We are committed to raising $15,500,000 during the campaign. PRIDE was our campuswide theme last year, and PROMISE is this year's theme. The title for our $55,000,000 campaign is fitting and appropriate: TO PRESERVE THE PRIDE, TO KEEP THE PROMISE. We all deserve to feel proud, and we need to congratulate and thank one another. This happened because of who we are, what we do, and the faith we have in one another. However, amid all of the changes that will now occur on this campus, the one thing that cannot change is us. And now the real work begins! Rick Niece, Ph.D. President |
