Scholarship Corner
The following is a list of scholarships for the 1999-2000 school
year. Anyone interested in more information should contact the Financial
Aid Office at 979-1221.
Samuel Robinson Award
Competition for the $1,000 Samuel Robinson Scholarship
Award is open to full-time juniors and seniors at Presbyterian-related
universities. The competition includes two parts: 1) memorizing and
reciting the answers to the Westminster Shorter Catechism, and 2)
writing a 2,000 word essay on an assigned topic which is designed
to increase the writer's knowledge and understanding of the Westminster
Shorter Catechism and A Brief Statement of Faith.
Students must complete both parts of the competition
or they will be disqualified. Deadline is April 1, 1999.
$500 Scholarship
The Arkansas Association of Student Financial Aid
Administrators (AASFAA) will be awarding two $500 scholarships to
Arkansas students attending a member institution. Application deadline
is March 30. Applications are in the financial aid office.
Accounting Scholarship
American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
is offering liberal arts students wishing to pursue graduate accounting
study scholarships to pursue a CPA certificate. Scholarships are given
based on academic achievement, leadership and future career interests.
Up to five recipients will be awarded $5,000 and will be eligible
for renewal for one more year. The deadline for submission is April
1. Applications may be obtained at AICPA On-line www.aicpa.org.
John Gyles Education Fund
The John Gyles Education Fund provides financial
assistance to Canadian and American full-time students both male and
female in all areas of post secondary education. A minimum GPA of
2.7 is required. Selected students will receive up to $3,000. The
first filing date for application is April 1.
County Employees Scholarship
The Association of Arkansas Counties will be accepting
applications for a 1999-2000 scholarship through May 1. General qualifications
include being a child, grandchild, adopted child, or stepchild of
a current or retired county employee of Arkansas majoring in government
or related courses, a graduate of an Arkansas high school, and showing
financial need.
