Scholarship Corner
The following is a list of scholarships available for the 1999-2000
school year. Anyone interested in more information should contact
the Financial Aid Office at 979- 1221 or 979-1219.
Weyerhaeuser Foundation
The Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation has established a $4,000 per year
scholarship program to assist students who are residents of Weyerhaeuser
operating communities. Arkansas counties in which Weyerhaeuser has
a significant presence are: Columbia, Garland, Hempstead, Hot Springs,
Howard, Little River, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Polk, Pulaski, Sevier,
and Yell. Graduating high school seniors, current freshmen and sophomores
are eligible. Recipients must enroll in a four-year AR college or
university and major in one of the following: Chemical Engineering,
Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering,
Forestry, Accounting, or Pulp and Paper Science. (Preference will
be given to minority students, African-Americans and females.) Application
Deadline is March 1st.
Single Parent Scholarship
The Johnson County Single Parent Scholarship Fund provides assistance
up to $500 per semester to those single parents who are pursuing a
course of instruction which will improve their income-earning potential.
Scholarships may be issued for tuition, books, utility bills, child
care, etc. Parents selected must be a resident of Johnson County,
a single parent with custody of children under 18 years, an undergraduate
student either part-time or full-time, low income, and a recipient
of the Pell Grant. Application deadline is March 1st.
Women's Service Scholarship
The Women's Overseas Service League Scholarships range from $500 to
$1,000 annually. The scholarships are awarded to women who are committed
to advancement in the military or other public service careers, demonstate
such committment through life experiences, and complete a minimum
of 12 semester hours with at least a 2.5 GPA. Deadline is March 1st.
