Tina McCain joined the Jones Learning Center in 1997, shortly after completing work on her master's degree. In her previous work as a teacher, she discovered how much she enjoyed working with students in developmental classes. "These students frequently just needed a little extra attention and really appreciated receiving it," Tina says.

It is an approach Tina has also seen at work in the learning center. "Ozarks offers a student with a learning disability or ADD the opportunity to be successful without sacrificing any of the value of their education. While Ozarks is academically challenging, the Jones Learning Center provides the support that can help the student who truly wants a valuable education to be successful."

Tina is amazed to see how hard students in the learning center work, with many of them putting in more hours than other students. Their motication and determination inspires her to work harder. "When they have that drive to be successful, I want to do all I can to help." Every semester, she works with a student who has been told he can't write, or who thinks she can't write.

"When a student comes to my office with a paper that he or she has struggled to write, and that paper has a good grade with positive comments, the pride in the student's face when he or she shows me the grade is one of the most gratifying experiences I have ever had!" Tina says. "That feeling doesn't diminish from semester to semester!"
