Pam assists learning center students with their math coursework, teaching a basic algebra course that prepares students to take regular college algebra, which is required for all students at Ozarks.
"My job is to teach (students) the basics," Pam says. "I show them how to break (math) down into steps they understand." She sometimes reads math problems out loud, and often works with students in small groups. "They don't feel so self-conscious and aren't afraid to speak up and ask questions."
Many of Pam's students go on from basic algebra to intermediate algebra, which is a required course for many majors at Ozarks. "They're smart!" says Pam "They go on to succeed." She has seen some of her students go on to tutor other students in math while at Ozarks, and others who become teachers after graduation.
Pam lives near Lake Ludwig, northwest of the Ozarks campus. She and her family also have a farm, where they raise cattle.
That's going to be our retirement!" Pam says. For the time being, however, she looks forward to continuing to teach math at Ozarks.
