Elise Cameron joined the JLC staff in 1999. She works with students on the building blocks of the English language, starting with the simple and progressing to the more complex. She says one of her most meaningful experiences as a reading specialist came when a student told her he could read the road signs on his way home for Thanksgiving break. It may seem like a small thing, but for a student who had just had the world of print opened up to him, it was quite an experience!
As she worked on her own degree in elementary education, Elise had the opportunity to visit classrooms ranging from preschool to college. "I came to realize that students with learning disabilities have great, often untapped potential," says Elise. "My desire to see each and every student reach their potential has brought me to Jones Learning Center with the determination to assure students they can reach their goals."
In conjunction with her work as a reading specialist, Elise offers individualized instruction in vocabulary building, comprehension and timed reading. As a member of the Academic Language Therapy Association, Elise keeps up to date on current research and effective approaches.
