M.Ed., Arkansas Tech University

Debby joined the JLC in as a learning disabilities assistant in 1983 and served as study skills specialist from 1984 to  1986, program coordinator from 1986 to 1994 and assistant director/program coordinator from 1994 to 2005, when she once again became a full-time program coordinator. A graduate of the University of the Ozarks, Debby became interested in working at the learning center after helping her own son learn in the face of his own learning disabilities in reading, writing and math.

Like many on the Ozarks campus, Debby sees the learning center, and the university as a whole, as a family. "I love working in the learning center because of the caring and supportive atmosphere," Debby says. "Students with learning disabilities blossom with this kind of support, and it is so rewarding to be a part of their educations and their lives."

Her enthusiasm for her work has not diminished in over 25 years. "I have had the privilege to watch many young people come to the learning center with little confidence or study strategies, and then grow and develop into confident, knowledgable adults with so much to contribute to society," Debby says.

Debby spends much of her spare time outdoors. She loves being outside in the sunshine, planting flowers, walking, jogging, canoeing or just playing with her four dogs and her cat.
