While teaching in an elementary school, Diana became intrigued with the bright students in her classes who simply could not seem to learn. They were a challenge and a mystery to her, so much so that she decided to return to college and acquire more training on how to more effectively teach them.
She worked at a private school for children with severe learning disabilities while she completed her master's degree, and first came to the Jones Learning Center in 1980, looking for ways to motivate her students. She was offered a job later that same year as a program coordinator.
"My work in the learning center has been inspiring and rewarding, providing an endless challenge to learn more abour learning disabilities," Diana says. "Any student with a learning disability or attention deficit disorder will find our program not only able to meet their needs, but also to enhance their strengths as they work toward their degree."
Diana's two children graduated from U of O, and she says one of her favorite things to do away from work is spend time with her three grandchildren. She also enjoys tending her flower and vegetable gardens, reading, crocheting, knitting and taking photographs of local lakes and wildflowers.
