The developmental services offered by the Jones Learning Center help students learn better study skills, and help improve basic skills in reading, writing, math and science.
Study Skills:
- Course for freshmen taught by study skills specialist teaches:
- Time management
- Comprehension strategies
- Note taking
- Memory techniques
- Test-taking strategies
Writing:
- Course for freshmen taught by writing specialist teaches:
- Writing skills needed for college
- Research
- Critical thinking
- Organization
- Critical reading
- Labs held for all required English courses
Reading:
- Reading instruction, taught by a reading specialist, available for those students desiring to increase reading skills
- Individual or small group instruction
- Multi-sensory
- Teaches vocabulary building, reading comprehension, phonics, increasing reading speed
Math/Science:
- Basic math skills taught by a math specialist
- Labs for math and science courses
