The Rev. Dr. James R. Struthers of Stillwater, Okla., a retired Presbyterian pastor and long-time University trustee, established the university's pastoral leave fellowship in 2005.
The Pastoral Study Leave Program was established through an endowment by the late Rev. Dr. James R. Struthers of Stillwater, Okla. Struthers, who passed away in September of 2011, was a long-time Presbyterian pastor who served on the University’s board of trustees for more than 20 years.
A native of Detroit, Struthers earned his undergraduate degree from Albion College in Michigan before attending McCormick Seminary in Chicago. He served at churches in Dallas, Texas; Tulsa, Okla.; and Richardson, Texas; before spending 20 years as senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater. He was the Executive Presbyter of the Cimarron Presbytery from 1990-2000. He was awarded an honorary doctor of divinity degree by Ozarks in 1969.
