Dr. Doug Jeffries' Botany class and Dr. Kim Van Scoy's Earth Science class spent a day exploring Lost Valley, off Highway 43 near Ponca.
Because of its spectacular rock formations, caves, and falls, Lost Valley has long been a popular destination for hikers. It was established as an Arkansas state park in 1967, but the park was transferred to the National Park Service when the the Buffalo River was designated as a national river.
An added bonus to the trip was a chance to stop in Ponca Valley to see the elk that live in the area!
